The expansion of the North Delta Recreation Centre is conceived of as a new civic address that rejuvenates a tired existing facility. The new addition delivers a full-size gymnasium, municipal business centre, 100% universal changeroom that serves the existing outdoor pool, and new 6,000 square feet fitness centre on the second floor.
The new building engages the corner of the existing building to create a physical gasket between new and old, allowing the public to enter the facility from either side through new public courtyards. This LEED Silver equivalent building features an integrated solar thermal system as well as three massive daylight monitors which fill the entire lobby with ambient natural daylight.
