Shore Townhomes

SHAPE Architecture has partnered with an innovative development team to build 18 new townhomes in Colwood, BC close to Royal Bay and Royal Roads University. The proposed scheme offers an optimal solution in terms of urban design, neighbourliness, and sustainability where ground oriented units are arranged to create a mix of housing typologies and creates a unique opportunity for communal spaces within the growing neighbourhood.

An analysis of the natural systems on and around the site has informed the location and design of dwelling units and central community space. All homes are positioned to be above the minimum recommended flood level, and are oriented to optimally control solar gains.

 

The massing of each home has been carefully crafted to create an intimate cadence along the street.  The kitchen spaces are oriented towards a Centralized “village green” with a Woonerf living street typology. While the living spaces open to private patio and deck spaces. This not only respects the privacy of neighbours, but also ensures “eyes on the street” to create a welcome environment for children to play.
