NEW PROJECT: Maple Grove Elementary

On Wednesday March 29th at Maple Grove Elementary, Hon. Mike Bernier the BC Minister of Education; Hon. Andrew Wilkinson, BC Minister of Advanced Education and MLA for Vancouver-Quilchena; and Dianne Turner, Vancouver School Board Trustee announced the new $24.4m Maple Grove Elementary replacement school funded under the BC Seismic Mitigation Program.

SHAPE Architecture was announced as the Project Architect and will begin consultation in April and schematic design in May 2017. The new school will be 4,238 sq. m. and have capacity for over 500 students.

PROJECT MILESTONE: 1495 West 8th Avenue rezoning approval

On January 24 2017, Vancouver City Councillors and Mayor Gregor Robertson voted unanimously in favour to approve the rezoning for 149 secured rental residential units, a new 4 storey Vancouver Masonic Centre with rental event space, and a restaurant space on 7th Avenue. SHAPE Architecture worked in close collaboration with Colliers International, BC Housing, the Vancouver Masonic Centre Association, and the City of Vancouver to deliver a mixed-use building calibrated to maximize benefits to the public realm within the numerous site constraints. AWARD: Guildford Aquatic Centre awarded Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia Medal in Architecture

At the 2016 Architectural Institute of British Columbia Awards Ceremony on 19 May 2016, the Guildford Aquatic Centre was awarded the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia Medal in Architecture, the highest level of recognition for a project by the AIBC.

Located in Surrey, BC, the Guildford Aquatic Centre is a state-of-the-art aquatic facility completed in 2015 by SHAPE Architecture in association with Bing Thom Architects. Click here to learn more about the project.

AWARD: Bob Prittie Metrotown Library

SHAPE Architecture is proud to announce that the Bob Prittie Metrotown Library renovation has received a British Columbia Library Association Merit Award.

The renovation re-imagined the aging library infrastructure, and included a full lobby renovation, renewal of adjacent back of house spaces, and integration of a new RFID check-out system. SHAPE Architecture worked closely with library staff to implement their vision of a more inviting open and bright lobby to encourage engagement between Library staff and patrons, creating a vital energized cultural space.

AWARD: 2016 National Urban Design Awards – Union Street EcoHeritage

The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC), the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP), and the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CLSA) in cooperation with Canadian municipalities, are pleased to announced that SHAPE Architecture’s Union Street EcoHeritage is the winner of the Urban Architecture category of the 2016 National Urban Design Awards. GRAND OPENING: North Delta Recreation Centre Expansion

Join us to celebrate the opening of this exciting new recreation centre expansion. The addition delivers a new full-size gymnasium, 100% universal change room that serves the existing outdoor pool and a 6,000 square foot fitness centre on the second floor.

NEW PROJECT: Vancouver Masonic Centre

SHAPE Architecture has recently submitted a rezoning application for the Vancouver Masonic Centre located at 1495 W 8th Avenue. The proposal is a mixed-use building including the new Vancouver Masonic Centre, an 18-storey secured rental housing building.
